Architect Innovates Design and Business Model

Thursday, December 2nd, 2010

Architecture, especially the innovative design, we’re so attracted to is sometimes hard to find. One architect that embodies that innovation for designs that instantly become ‘classic’ is Ann Fougeron   right here in San Francisco. Her designs for residential architecture are a sight to behold.

She’s also recently innovated her business model in a way that will incorporate homeowners wanting a ‘make-over’ or partial ‘make-over’ of an older residence rather than a new ‘ground-up’ re-build. She is the first architect of her stature I’m aware of to incorporate this aspect (which I deal with daily) as buyers seek something in the middle. This endeavor will require her to deal with homes that are often times 100years old or more but which the owner wants to imagine something ‘new’ that incorporates the existing. I hope you enjoy her website as much as I have.

The City Scene is ‘Popping’!

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Things are starting to ‘pop’ here in the City. Technology company leasing is up over 60% in China Basin and South of Market neighborhoods. The sale of the last large parcel in San Francisco of approximately 14 acres to Salesforce.com for something in the neighborhood of $289million has put a spark into the local scene because Salesforce beat out other suitors looking for large parcels also. Another party looking for a large parcel is the Veterans Department to build a new hospital on to replace the aging facility out near the Legion of Honor and to be near the new San Francisco General Hospital to be build in the area around the ball park and on the East side of Potrero Hill. All this activity in conjunction with a number of stalled condominium parcels with permits in place changing hands to new owners who are ’saying all the right’ things about reviving these projects and the ‘real’ possibility of an America’s Cup facility and race is juicing up a local real estate scene, job creation engine and another bright spot in the Bay Area innovation scene.
